SPLC Action Fund Endorses District Attorney Shameca S. Collins in Re-Election Bid
JACKSON, Miss. — The SPLC Action Fund today endorsed District Attorney Shameca S. Collins in her re-election campaign in Mississippi’s Sixth District. Throughout her first term, Collins remained steadfast in her promise to be a progressive prosecutor committed to addressing inequities and ensuring fairness in the criminal justice system.
“The criminal justice system in Mississippi is riddled with racial inequities from arrests, to overincarceration to the inhumane treatment of incarcerated people,” said Brandon Jones, director of political campaigns for the SPLC Action Fund. “District Attorney Collins has demonstrated her commitment to address these issues and put fairness before all else. This is why we are proud to endorse her.”
The SPLC Action Fund is focused on lifting up communities of color, particularly in the Deep South, who face systemic oppression, poverty and structural racism. To overcome these injustices, the organization is committed to reimagining the political, economic and social systems that sustain them to create a world where all people can thrive.
In pursuit of this bold agenda, the SPLC Action Fund supports candidates who share its commitment to addressing the deep inequities that plague our nation.
