SPLC Action Fund Endorses Candidates for County Office Across Florida

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, the SPLC Action Fund endorsed candidates for County Mayor, County Commission, County Clerk of Court & Comptroller and County Property Appraiser ahead of Florida’s statewide elections on Aug. 20, 2024. 

Endorsed candidates include:

  • Daniella Levine Cava, running for Miami-Dade County Mayor, hopes to continue addressing the housing affordability crisis and improve quality of life for all residents. Cava was elected as the first-ever woman Mayor of Miami-Dade County in 2020 and is seeking re-election.
  • Cindy Lerner, running for Miami-Dade County Commission District 7, hopes to expand transit options and protect the Everglades from big developers. Lerner formerly served as a State Representative and as the Mayor of Pinecrest.
  • Cindy Stuart, running for Hillsborough County Clerk of Court & Comptroller, hopes to continue serving with a focus on equity, transparency and independence. She is an incumbent. 
  • Marisol Zenteno, running for Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser, hopes to increase transparency in the office and ensure residents understand tax benefits available to them. She is a State General Appraiser with 20 years of experience.

“Florida is at a political crossroads and voters have an opportunity in August to move past culture wars and elect candidates who will take action on the issues that matter most to their communities,” said Madison Hollon, program manager of political campaigns for the SPLC Action Fund. “We are proud to endorse this slate of candidates for county office, who are focused on improving housing affordability, public safety and government accountability.”

Last week, the SPLC Action Fund endorsed 10 candidates for school board in Broward, Duval, Hillsborough, Leon, Miami-Dade, Orange and Seminole counties. 

The SPLC Action Fund is focused on lifting up communities of color, particularly in the Deep South, who face systemic oppression, poverty and structural racism. To overcome these injustices, the organization is committed to reimagining the political, economic and social systems that sustain them to create a world where all people can thrive.  In pursuit of this bold agenda, the SPLC Action Fund supports candidates who share its commitment to addressing the deep inequities that plague our nation.
